School Report Card

Letter from the Principal

Dear Kensington Elementary Families,

At Kensington, we are a united community of Knights, inspiring every student to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We empower our students to embrace challenges and lead with confidence, curiosity, and kindness—making a positive impact in our school and beyond. Our mission at KES is to foster safety, self-worth, and curiosity in every child through engaging experiences, positive communication, and an inclusive environment.

Each year, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction shares updates with families and communities through the North Carolina School Report Card. This report provides important information about our school’s performance, class sizes, attendance, safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. You can view the full report for Kensington Elementary and all North Carolina schools at the NC School Report Card website.

We are proud to share that Kensington Elementary has been recognized as a “B” school for the 2024–2025 academic year and exceeded expected growth measures. While we celebrate this accomplishment, we know that data only tells part of our story.  We emphasize the Portrait of a Graduate and the five essential skills our students need for success: innovative leadership, resilient problem-solving, key contribution, effective communication, and skilled collaboration.

Our 1:1 laptop initiative for students in grades 3–5 prepares them for future college and career opportunities, while our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) foster collaboration among teachers to enhance instruction and student growth. This year, we are also excited to launch the Ron Clark House System at Kensington—a program designed to build character, foster school spirit, and strengthen our sense of community.

We value our partnerships with families and community members. Our PTO plays a vital role in our success by funding projects and initiatives that directly benefit students. We are also fortunate to have our Knight’s Dads group, who greet students with enthusiasm every Friday morning during carpool. Your active involvement and support make Kensington a wonderful place for children to learn and grow.

Our dedicated staff goes above and beyond each day, supported by an outstanding community that shares our commitment to helping every child reach their full potential. We believe in open, honest communication and continuously seek opportunities for growth and improvement. If you have any questions or ideas, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to nurture the whole child at Kensington Elementary.

Warm regards,

Emily Culberson
